Academic Integrity

Did you know you can self plagiarize?

Most Loyola students understand that cheating is a violation of academic integrity. Additionally, most students understand plagiarism is wrong, but most students don’t understand what it is. Some students plagiarize without realizing they have done so!

It is your responsibility to understand the expectations the University has with respect to your honesty and integrity. Fortunately, you do not have to figure this out on your own.

Tips to ensure you are upholding the standards on academic integrity:

  • Familiarize yourself with the Academic Integrity statement in the Undergraduate Catalog.
  • Spend time learning the standards for your academic discipline. It can be confusing to know how to properly cite material, but being confused is not an excuse.  When in doubt, ask your professor or a librarian.
  • Get to know the librarians! The librarians at Loyola specialize in subject areas and are willing and able to help you find quality sources for your research and cite those sources appropriately. Connect with a librarian in person or through text, IM, phone, or email.
